Hayley Mary found her footing in the original era of Indie-slease as the formidable front woman of ARIA award-winning Sydney band, The Jezabels. During the band's hiatus Hayley has released three solo EP's, The Piss, The Perfume (2020), The Drip (2021) and Fall In Love (2021). These combined her trademark quirky, provocative, romantic lyricism with a more upbeat singer-songwriter style with hints of Americana, Motown and Brit-rock, landing Hayley tours with Liam Gallagher (Oasis), Tim Finn (Crowded House) and DMA'S (AUS).

In 2024 Hayley released her debut album Roman XS, featuring singles ‘The Lonely One’, ‘The Ballad Of Ruby Wednesday’, ‘One Last Drag’, ‘Eighteen’ and 'Some Rainbows’. The album channels a broad church of influences from Kate Bush to The Killers to The Chemical Brothers and was described as “Electrifying and distinct…Intriguing and unpigeonholeable, stylistically diverse...a thrilling ride.” (Beat Mag) and was recently nominated for the 2025 Australian Music Prize.

Roman XS was a self-funded three year project that defied the music industry trend of pushing fast content and single tracks made to serve the algorithm. “I’m like a sponge, I guess. For better or worse, it takes me a fair time away in my own world to soak up enough to make something I think worthwhile,” Hayley says of her musical process. “I am searching for somewhere on the edge of quaintly familiar and chillingly gothic in most of my songs…maybe you could call it seeking the sublime.”

Hayley is now based in country Victoria, Australia and is working on new music.
